2018 Jaguar F-Pace Review

The 2018 Jaguar F-Pace is a relatively new player in the world of SUVs as the 2018 version is only the second iteration of this model. However, in this relatively short time, the F-Pace has built a strong reputation for itself. This is especially commendable considering how competitive this segment is. The 2018 Jaguar F-Pace improves on its predecessor and is set to be an even greater success.

SPORTY EXTERIOR

The one thing that all Jaguars manage to do is look sleek, elegant and have a considerable amount of road presence. Driving a 2018 F-Pace is no different and it somehow manages to look both sleek and menacing at the same time. The beefy grille, massive intakes, bulging hood and the LED headlights combine beautifully to create a bold and sporty front end. The side view really showcases the large wheels, sloping roofline and rear overhang spoiler for an overall sleek shape. The rear end brings the entire look together with narrow tail lights, dual exhaust and a pleasing rounded shape.

The exterior of the 2018 Jaguar F-Pace isn’t just about the looks, but equally about the aerodynamic design. Complex aerodynamic testing has been used ensure the least amount of air resistance, improving fuel efficiency and handling a considerable amount.

MODERN INTERIOR

First glance of the 2018 F-Pace delivers the luxurious atmosphere you would expect from a Jaguar and is very reminiscent of the interior of the 2018 Range Rover Velar. Everything looks and feels superb. The seats are plush and comfortable and even the steering wheel feels good in the hands. Bold colours and customizable mood lighting combine beautifully to create a mesmerizing effect. The roomy interior was surprising as the exterior misleads viewers into thinking the F-Pace is smaller than it actually is.

The controls are ergonomic and everything is logically placed – there are even some controls above the rear-view mirror which gives off the feeling of piloting an aircraft. Elegance is the word that keeps coming up when the interior of the 2018 F-Pace is discussed. Plus, with a cargo space of 508L, it’s one of the roomiest crossover luxury SUVs and allows 5 people to travel in style and comfort.

A widescreen display adorns the dash of the 2018 F-Pace, while another widescreen replaces the traditional gauges and provides some customization on what is shown on the display. While everything from the central control knob to the steering wheel mounted controls feel expensive and high quality, it’s also nicely laid out in a refined interior.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

The 2018 Jaguar F-Pace comes with 4 choices of engines. The inline four cylinder diesel engine is turbocharged to produce 180hp and is best suited for the relaxed commuter who appreciates an economic ride with great gas consumption. There’s also two inline four cylinder gas engine options outputting 247hp and 296hp, both of which are more for the enthusiast who still wants a dash of practicality. Finally, if you want the all-out performer then go for the supercharged V6 which produces a powerful 380hp.

The diesel-powered engine felt a bit lacking at the top end and power delivery also lacked a sense of urgency at all speeds. However, this is the ideal engine for a daily driver that will be putting in a lot of mileage. Since you’re already opting for a luxury Jaguar, it makes more sense to opt for a bit more power from one of the four cylinder gas engines. The V6 is for the enthusiasts wanting to feel the adrenaline and rush of driving with enormous power at hand.

Whichever engine you choose, the acceleration will be smooth and linear, and the power delivery will inspire confidence, making driving the F-Pace an exceptional experience.

The last thing you would expect an SUV to be called is nimble but that is indeed the best way to describe the handling of the 2018 F-Pace. Thanks to its aerodynamically sculpted exteriors and a body architecture that uses a lot of aluminum, the F-Pace is a lot stiffer but lighter. This means that there is no rolling sensation often associated with larger cars when going around corners. It also improves braking stability and gives you the confidence to drive your hearts out.

The 2018 Jaguar F-Pace is packed full of the latest driving technology. The Lane Keep Assist feature is one of the best cruise controls we have seen. The driver condition monitor is not a gimmick, it actually works. Any lapses in concentration are recorded by the in-house monitoring systems and you are alerted if the car feels you are not in a state to drive the car safely. The emergency braking is also very effective while the park assist always comes in handy. The all surface progress control and the adaptive surface response was the biggest surprise. It automatically detects the type of road surface the car is on and automatically adjusts every setting of the car accordingly. This makes off-roading both easy and safe.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Despite being only the second generation of the F-Pace, the 2018 model feels very mature and refined. If you want an all-around performer that looks elegant, is equipped with some the latest cutting-edge technologies and gives you the bragging rights of owning a Jag then look no further! With so many configurations, there’s sure to be the perfect model for your situation.
