If It Ain’t Broke: Jaguar Ups Its Warranty and Service Coverage

2016 Jaguar XF S AWD

Exciting news for anyone who might hesitate to keep a Jaguar past its warranty period: The fine folks at the company’s Mahwah, New Jersey, headquarters will now underwrite what is arguably the best limited-warranty coverage in the luxury segment. Starting now, all 2016 Jaguars will offer 5-year/60,000-mile warranties, along with free scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, and telematics functions (such as remote unlocking) during that period.

Initially, Jaguar announced this new warranty and service deal, now called Jaguar EliteCare, only for the 2016 F-type. The automaker will extend it this fall to the 2016 XF and XJ, plus the 2017 XE and F-pace next year. The new InControl Remote & Protect, the company’s smartphone app and call service, is included for five years or unlimited miles.

Of course, Hyundai, Kia, and Mitsubishi have been leading the industry with their 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage (paired with a 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty). But Jaguar’s coverage stands at or near the top among luxury brands, although several competitors offer longer periods for powertrain and roadside assistance. Have a look below. (Note: We define telematics as systems that offer emergency and location services, such as SOS calls from an embedded phone, vehicle tracking, and remote unlocking).

It’s all part of Jaguar’s mission to dispel its longstanding black mark of poor reliability. “At Jaguar, we’re particularly concerned,” said Kim McCullough, vice president of marketing, with how customers treat the company’s results in quality surveys. “Our reputation lags our actual performance.”
