The newly redesigned 2014 Mazda 6 has come a long way since it debuted in Canada as a 2004 model. Although it’s Mazda’s largest sedan, it is also currently the most aggressive looking. The exterior design has continued to evolve with the times and the fully redesigned 2014 Mazda 6 is a great example. The aggressive lines on the front fenders connect seamlessly into the oversized Austin Martin-like front grille, similar to the 2013 Ford Fusion.
The 2014 Mazda 6 is a smooth and solid ride, gripping the road in tight turns and providing a feeling of responsive reliability when power is needed. Although the acceleration is a bit lacking, the overall feeling of the ride is comfortable and secure.
ENGINE AND RIDE
With only 184 horsepower in the 2.5 L four cylinder engine, it would seem that the 2014 Mazda 6 is underpowered for its size, especially when compared to other cars in its class. However, even with a car full of passengers there is power to spare when you need to hit the gas. The small engine powering this larger car does lead to a noticeable amount of engine noise inside the cabin, especially when travelling at higher speeds. On the other side of things, the smaller engine provides a 7.6 L/100km consumption in the city and a 5.1 L/100km consumption on the highway.
SIMPLE AND FUNCTIONAL INTERIOR
The spacious interior of the 2014 Mazda 6 is simple, elegant and has the driver’s safety and convenience in mind. My favourite aspect of the interior is its simplicity –the dash and central console are not cluttered with buttons like many other cars these days. However, the navigation and audio system can still be controlled with the touch screen, buttons, central console dial or the steering wheel. The control dial built into the central console is positioned perfectly to allowing the driver to control all aspects of the touch screen without reaching. Although the dash and interior console lines are clean and good quality materials are used, the design could still inspire a bit more awe.
With plenty of legroom in the rear for 3 adults and a huge amount of trunk space, travelling long distances with a full load becomes a comfortable journey.
The quality of materials used in the interior, the aggressive exterior styling and the solid feeling of the car are conducive to a high price tag. However, the 2014 Mazda 6 starts at $24,495 which in my opinion is great value for money when compared to other full size sedans. So, if you’re in the market for a large family sedan with a modern exterior and an elegant interior then take a 2014 Mazda 6 for a test drive.
