When you are buying a car, there are a number of distinct qualities you are looking for. The same is true, regardless of whether you are buying first- or second-hand. What most drivers wants from their car is cost-effectiveness, reliability – and possible, a bit of fun. However, navigating the used car industry can be a bit of a headache. Even if you have plenty of prior experience, it can still be troublesome. Part of the reason for this is because, as an industry, it changes so dramatically and so fast. Yet, most people only buy a car once every five to ten years. So for most people, when it comes time to get a new car, they are already out of their depth. If you are currently thinking about buying second-hand, then there is a lot to take on board. One of the first decisions you should make, however, is what brand to go for. Honda

Honda are known for offering exceptional long-term value with all their cars. This is great news when it comes to buying second-hand. With most Hondas, you can be sure that only a little depreciation has occurred. What this ultimately means for you is that you are getting more for your money than you might otherwise. The Honda also has the great benefit of being, on the whole, quite attractive. This might not be everything to you – but when you are choosing between used cars, it certainly can count for something. Add to that the badge’s famous knack for producing solid engines, and you have a fairly solid choice for your used car.

Toyota

This is the brand that tends to top the reliability scoreboards time and again. It’s true – if what you are after is a trustworthy run-around, then Toyota is probably the brand to go for. With a used toyota, you are likely to have a car which will go for a long time without needing so much as a service. But what about the price tag? Well, it’s not bad on that front either, with prices usually being fairly competitive. Of course, with the used car market, you never quite know. But when it comes to something you are happy to drive away on the day, you can’t say much fairer than a Toyota.

Vauxhall

If it’s cheap and cheerful you’re after, then Vauxhall is probably the way to go. This brand has a real reputation for churning out bangers. It’s true – if you are looking for something to get you from A to B, then go for a Vauxhall. But that is not to say that they are just dirt machines. They do also have a reputation for reliability. If you find yourself a nifty little Vauxhall Astra or similar, you have probably made a fair investment which will last you a while. These are, on the whole, cars which are built to last. And in today’s economy, that is more welcome than ever.
