2014 Kia Sorento SX Review

2014 Kia Sorento SX Exterior Front Side

The 2014 Kia Sorento is the largest SUV offered by Kia and comes with optional third row seating. The European inspired design of this crossover SUV keeps the 2014 Kia Sorento low to the ground with a long and wide exterior.

ENGINE & DRIVE

Powered by a 3.3L V6 engine paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission (with manual shift option), the 2014 Kia Sorento SX outputs 290 horsepower. This all wheel drive crossover SUV posts a fuel consumption of 11.9 L/100km in the city and 8.4 L/100km on the highway. Having driven the 2014 Kia Sorento SX for over 250kms of city and highway driving, I was disappointed to see the thirsty combined fuel economy of 14.4 L/100km.

Driving the 2014 Kia Sorento SX is a smooth ride with more than enough power when needed. The turns are smooth and the cabin noise is minimal. I also like the option to adjust the steering feel on fly from normal to loose (comfort) or stiff (sport).

INTERIOR & EXTERIOR

Taking a step back to fully take in the exterior design of the 2014 Kia Sorento SX, you will notice the front grille design consistent with other Kia models adding to the aggressive side accent lines and a gigantic full length panoramic sunroof. All in all a sharp looking exterior, but at the same time not a uniquely pleasant head turning design either.

2014 Kia Sorento SX Exterior Side

One thing I’ve been impressed with for not just the 2014 Kia Sorento SX, but for all Kias, is the inclusion of features usually only seen in upper end vehicles. Features such as heated and cooled front seats, heated rear passenger seats, heated steering wheel, heated automatic fold-in side mirrors with turn signal and power lift gate all come standard on the 2014 Kia Sorento SX model.

2014 Kia Sorento SX Interior

There’s no doubt these are nice features for added comfort and convenience, but the 2014 Kia Sorento SX also comes with a plethora of useful features to make driving easier and safer. Features such as touch screen controls and navigation, backup camera with backup sensors, auto turning and levelling headlights and Bluetooth/USB integration are great additions to the 2014 Sorento SX and also for any vehicle.

2014 Kia Sorento SX Exterior Rear Side

Although the 2014 Kia Sorento looks quite large from the exterior, the interior feels a bit cramped. With adequate leg room for front and rear passengers, I would have hoped for a bit more interior space coming from the hefty exterior size. The nicely designed center console and dash provide a clean look. The huge touch screen controls navigation, phone and audio, reducing the clutter of buttons seen on many other vehicles these days. The nicely appointed interior features the use of various finishings that feel like higher quality materials and also provides many of storage compartments within reach of the driver.

The 2014 Kia Sorento also provides extra safety features to keep your mind at ease. Beyond the already standard 6 airbags, the Sorento has a whiplash protection system built into the front passenger headrests, moving them up and forward instantly to help reduce neck injuries.

FINAL THOUGHTS

For the top of the line 2014 Kia Sorento SX, you will receive all the latest technology, comfort and conveniences at a great value-for-money price starting at $40,595. If you are okay with a slightly gas thirstier vehicle then I would highly recommend adding the 2014 Kia Sorento SX to your list of test drives as I know you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
