2019 Honda Civic Coupe Review

While not much has changed since the tenth generation redesign, the 2019 Honda Civic Coupe adds a new Sport trim to the lineup, which fits right in between the base model LX and the higher end Touring trim. Not only is the Honda Civic one of the most popular cars ever made, but it’s also one of the most versatile and most customized vehicles around.

Now in its tenth generation, featuring new underpinnings, an updated cabin and brand-new engines, the 2019 Honda Civic has won back over its customers since the less popular version of last generation’s Civic.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

The 2019 Honda Civic Coupe has three different engines to choose from depending on your situation. The base LX and the Sport trims are both equipped with the 2.0L four cylinder engine, outputting 158hp and paired with either a six speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Step up to the Civic Touring to get the 1.5L four cylinder turbo charged engine that churns out 174hp through the CVT, or go to the top of the line Civic Si Coupe to get the sport tuned 1.5L turbo charged four cylinder engine outputting 205hp and paired with the six speed manual transmission.

The 2019 Honda Civic Sport Coupe brings back the manual transmission for the enthusiasts after Civics went all automatic for a period of time. The manual transmission is rated at 9.3 L/100km in the city and 6.7 L/100km on the highway for the LX and Sport trims, while the CVT comes in with 7.8 L/100km in the city and 6.1 L/100km on the highway. Enthusiasts have the option of the manual transmission, while commuters will typically go for the CVT

Despite being front wheel drive, the 2019 Civic Coupe achieves superb handling from the helical limited slip differential which helps transfer power between the front wheels, providing more control through turns. The low and wide stance helps keep the Civic planted, while the steering feels true and provides plenty of feedback through turns.

Overall, even the base model 2019 Civics are extremely fun to drive. The well-balanced chassis and lightweight body coupled with grippy tires means you have lots of room to play with. A full independent set-up and sporty electronic steering make for some good fun in the corners. Plus, for 2019 Honda includes the full range of Honda Sensing safety and driver assisting technology features as standard.

PLEASING EXTERIOR

The bold but subtle exterior stylings of the 2019 Honda Civic Coupe instill a feeling of pleasure, as it resembles an exterior of a luxury sports car, while still giving a hint of daily driver utility. This happy medium between performance and daily driver shows through on the 2019 Civic with its black front grille and lower bumper fascia, the side accent lines, rounded coupe shape and a uniquely wide and thin centered exhaust.

The 2019 Civic Coupe blends a variety of accent lines, sharp angles and cuts which give it a bold and modern appearance. Two creases on the sides and a beveled hood give it a chiseled look, showcasing the sporty design. The rear side sports a complex design with many features including the c-shaped tail lights, full length brake lights, carbon fiber-esk materials on the lower bumper and all kinds of folds, creases and lines.

SPACIOUS INTERIOR

While the 2019 Honda Civic Coupe may appear small and compact from the outside, you will quickly realize it’s quite spacious in the cabin. The rear passengers fit cozily in the back and have plenty of leg and knee room. Taller passengers may not like the sloping roofline and would be better off sitting in the front. The seats are comfortable and supportive at the same time, allowing for taller and wider occupants to find the perfect position easily up front.

The 2019 Civic Coupe has one of the best interiors in its class, so naturally Honda didn’t want to change things up too much for 2019. The interior is simple, sleek and elegant. The fit and finish is top notch and there’s no clutter anywhere you look. The materials themselves are high-quality and the general atmosphere and vibe is bright and elegant. This isn’t a premium vehicle, so don’t expect a ton of leather, but for its segment, the 2019 Civic interior offers a lot of value.

A beautiful digital instrument cluster is positioned right behind the steering wheel, broken up visually into three segments. The center display is used as a digital tachometer, speedometer and odometer. The left is a smaller digital gauge monitoring engine temp. Finally, to the right there’s a digital fuel gauge. You get quickly accustomed to the environment and actually start preferring the digital displays over analogue gauges after a while, since everything is so crisp and clear at all times. The best part of everything being digital is the ease of customization and being able to choose what to show on which display.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The tenth generation 2019 Honda Civic Coupe is definitely a crowd pleaser with its sport exterior design, versatile and elegant interior and many powertrain options and combinations to satisfy all types of drivers. The 2019 Civic is one of the most versatile vehicles out there and has been a top seller for all these decades for good reason. With an entry level price of $21,290 for the 2019 Civic Coupe, there’s immense value for money built into this choice. While some of the competition may pull ahead in certain areas, there’s no doubt that the 2019 Civic wins overall.
