2019 Honda Passport Review

We cannot deny that Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are big business – every manufacturer in the world has responded to the massive demand for them by producing a huge range of models to fill out their fleets. Honda is no exception as their 2019 Passport fills customers’ needs for versatility, practicality and off-road capability. Positioned between the company’s popular 2019 CR-V and 2019 Pilot, the 2019 Honda Passport has the looks of a rugged four-wheel drive monster.

RUGGED EXTERIOR

From the outside, the 2019 Honda Passport looks like a lean, mean, off-road machine with its macho looks and amazing road presence. The wide and powerful stance is complimented by a rugged, chain link-like grille and massive LED headlights that stretch around the corners of the front end.

Moving around to the rear of the 2019 Passport, the design is a combination of sporty and refined. The dual exhaust, shark fin antenna and many accent lines all come together to create a design in keeping with the front end. The side view of the Passport really showcases its best features including a two tone black and burgundy design with numerous accent lines, a sloped roofline and rear spoiler.

SPACIOUS INTERIOR

Stepping inside the 2019 Honda Passport will immediately make you think of the Honda Pilot. The spacious interior and similar layout are both well received in the Passport. Visibility is great all round and is improved by thin windshield pillars, upright glass and triangular panels on the front doors.

A well design dash is put together with quality materials and an elegant design that’s quite safe unlike the edgier designs of Acura interiors. A nice use of glossy black material helps to break up the various sections and is pleasing to the eyes. The simple layout is intuitive and functional, with all the controls exactly where you would expect them to be.

The tall, wide cabin feels extremely spacious with generous amounts of room all around the front and even for rear passengers. Interior storage is excellent and practical with many places store short term and long term items within the doors and center console. The plush leather seats are comfortable and supportive and work perfectly inside the cabin of the 2019 Passport.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

Under the hood of the 2019 Honda Passport is the same 280hp, 3.5L V6 engine found in the 2019 Honda Pilot. This engine is paired with a nine speed automatic transmission with smooth shifting gear changes and a great ability to know which gear is ideal for the current driving conditions.

Ground clearance is a very generous 7.5 inches or 8.1 inches for all-wheel-drive models, and the 2019 Passport can tow up to 500lbs. However, the Passport’s high ride height does contribute to a top-heavy demeanor on the road which results in a bit of passenger sway in turns. Despite this, the 2019 Passport has some fast and powerful acceleration, even with a full load of passengers and cargo. The ride is comfortable on most roads and the steering is direct, all of which give the 2019 Passport a nimble, agile feeling from behind the wheel.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The 2019 Honda Passport starts at $43,930 for the base model, which is slightly more expensive when compared with the competition. Upgrading to the top of the line Touring trim bring quite a lot of value with the addition of all the convenience, luxury and technology features. Overall, the 2019 Honda Passport is a great choice for outdoor enthusiasts that are looking for a versatile vehicle that performs great off-road, but is also a great daily driver.
