2019 Volkswagen Arteon Review

When choosing a mid-sized German sports sedan – the selection is competitive, with a long list of options out there. But the good news for VW fans is that the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon, a four door sports sedan, is now available in Canada for 2020. The 2019 Arteon replaces the discontinued Volkswagen CC and is fully redesigned earning itself an entirely different name.

ELEGANT EXTERIOR

The 2019 Arteon, is one of the Volkswagen Audi Group’s best looking vehicles. The front end gets the new look VW corporate grille and striking lines elongated down the side of the vehicle. If you have an eye for detail, then you’ll soon notice the clever use of horizontal lines along the front of the Arteon, which seamlessly merge into the head lamps. Something which makes it appear wider and gives the Arteon an powerful road presence.

From the rear, the 2019 Arteon has a very strong Audi feel about it, which of course isn’t really a bad thing. The wide and narrow dual exhaust outlets are a fad embraced by most manufacturers these days, but they integrate nicely into the Arteon’s design.

REFINED INTERIOR

With a wheelbase of almost three metres, there’s plenty of space inside the 2019 VW Arteon. Rear passengers won’t be disappointed with the amount of legroom on offer and even special extras such as rear heated seats help to make the journey more comfortable.

In the front, Volkswagen fans will be familiar with the layout but the Arteon does feature a large high-definition dashboard which gives all the driver information while the driver enjoys a heated, cooled and massage seat as standard.

A large app-friendly multimedia infotainment system is also included as standard which works with ApplePlay and Android phones. Even trunk space is immense with a huge 770 litres on offer, which is more than suitable for a number of large suitcases. All of which is accessible via the power tailgate, as standard of course.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

Every 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is equipped with a 2.0L four cylinder engine that outputs 268hp and is paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission and the well-known 4MOTION four-wheel drive system which makes the Arteon an outstanding vehicle in adverse weather conditions.

The refined driving feel instills the feeling of luxury with comfortable steering, a quiet cabin and plenty of power on hand. When driving more spiritedly, you can expect some great handling from the low and wide stance.

The 2019 Arteon excels most at long distance cruising which delivers a relaxing, comfortable and quiet ride over long distances. Even with the powerful engine, the Arteon still posts some impressive fuel economy for highway driving which comes in at 8.6 L/100km. City driving however does suffer from the powerful engine, with posted rates of 12.0 L/100km.

FINAL THOUGHTS

From first glance it’s clear that the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is a luxury vehicle, packing some great features in its refined and elegant design. German engineering is prevalent with the top notch materials put together in a high quality build. While there will always be cheaper cars than anything with the VW badge on the front, you can rest assured that you’re buying reliability, performance and a technologically advanced vehicle. The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is priced starting at $47,995 for the ExecLine model and offers top notch luxury and a refined driving experience.
