2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI Review

It’s not often you see the words ‘Autobahn Approved’ when browsing the details of a car on the manufacturers website – but these two words alone tells you how seriously Volkswagen is taking the latest 2020 Golf GTI. The Golf GTI has an incredible history and is basically every hot hatch lover’s dream, so the latest 2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI cannot disappoint fans as it has a lot to live up to.

COMPACT EXTERIOR

Upon first glance, you’ll immediately notice the 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI has a sharp and purposeful design, meant to please anyone who sets eyes on it. It has plenty of detailing around the vehicle and plenty of attention to detail has been made to make sure the 2020 Golf GTI stands out from previous models.

The GTI model is again identified with a bright horizontal stripe along the front grille. Chrome dual exhaust and a high level rear spoiler tells others you are driving something a little special. The standard 17 inch wheels look great, but higher spec versions are fitted with 18 inch wheels which certainly give the car the perfect GTI feel.

REFINED INTERIOR

Inside the new 2020 Golf GTI, you will soon notice it doesn’t get the digital cockpit you’ll see in all the other newer Volkswagen models hitting the market. However, this isn’t a bad thing as a ‘traditional’ dashboard honours the heritage of the Golf and hasn’t moved it too far into the 21st Century.

A small, sporty steering wheel offers multi functional buttons and final dashes of colour throughout the trim remind you of the power you have beneath your right foot. Chrome touches around the window line and steering wheel make the cockpit a really nice place to be.

While the interior is compact, the well designed layout ensures there’s enough space for passengers, and cargo, along with many places to store personal belongings.

The firm, but comfortable seats in the 2020 Golf GTI offers great side support and are comfortable for longer drives.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

Volkswagen has made sure the new 2020 Golf GTI does its predecessors proud with an impressive 238hp delivered from a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder engine. Pushing all this power through the front wheels would be a real issue in most cars, but the Golf GTI deals with the torque steer through the use of incredible technology.

Either a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed automatic transmission is available, but it’s likely that any GTI hot hatch fan would opt for the manual transmission! The compact body of the 2020 Golf GTI helps achieve a great fuel economy of 7.3 L/100km on the highway and 9.8 L/100km in the city.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Volkswagen won’t have to be worried about selling the 2020 Golf GTI as the hardcore fan following would gobble it up no matter what the latest model offered. However so many other tempting offers in the market help to keep Volkswagen designers and engineers on their toes.

Priced from $30,845, it’s good value considered the high level of standard equipment and sheer levels of performance. The 2020 Golf GTI’s closest competitors come nowhere near to offering the same levels of quality and heritage the Golf does, so it goes without saying you should definitely take the 2020 Golf GTI out for a test drive!
