2020 Cadillac XT6 Review

The handsome looking 2020 Cadillac XT6 is a brand-new model from Cadillac and has a distinguished road presence to match its luxury heritage. It fills the gap between the more compact 2020 XT5 and the full-size Escalade. With almost 10 inches of additional length over the XT5, the 2020 XT6 represents the first three-row unibody SUV from Cadillac in over a decade, while being based on the same platform as the 2020 Buick Enclave.

SPORTY EXTERIOR

The brand newly designed 2020 Cadillac XT6 brings adds a look of luxury to a design that’s heavy on the road presence. The front end gives the 2020 XT6 a bold look with its low and wide stance and the sleek and narrow headlights flanking the wide black mesh grille with corporate badging front and center. More intrigue is added to the front-end design with more use of the black mesh on both sides by the fog lights and below the bumper, creating a sporty and luxurious look from the front.

While the side view is quite plain, it does showcase the roof rails and the 20-inch twelve spoke wheels. The rear view showcases the signature lighting design, in keeping with the Cadillac brand, along with dual chrome exhaust, a full width chrome strip and rear spoiler and shark fin antenna. Overall the 2020 XT6 showcases a bold exterior design full of sportiness and luxury.

LUXURIOUS INTERIOR

Stepping into the cabin of the 2020 Cadillac XT6, you are greeted by a familiar space as it is near-identical to the 2020 XT5’s interior. There are some more luxurious appointments to the materials like carbon fibre and chrome, while the controls to give the XT6 a slightly more elegant look.

The 2020 XT6 sports an intuitive infotainment system which allows for controlling various features in a user-friendly tablet style interface. Touch screen controls, steering wheel mounted controls or an easy-to-reach rotary knob controller on center console reach can all be used to navigate the various features. With the infotainment controlled by the touchscreen and the minimalistic climate controls below, the dash keeps a clean and uncluttered look while also highlighting some interesting polished materials to perk up the appearance.

The spacious interior of the 2020 XT6 offers seating for 7 or 8 passengers with a full width bench or captains chairs in the middle row. Third row seating comes standard in all models and when folded down offers plenty of cargo space for bulky items. The XT6 has about 16 cubic feet more cargo space and the overall roomier cabin allows tall passengers to not feel cramped.

The electronic shifter creates a large storage space below the center console while making the shifting and drive mode selection more efficient. Storage for small personal items could be improved. Overall, the 2020 XT6 is spacious and provides all the interior conveniences and luxuries one would expect from a Cadillac SUV.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

A powerful 3.6L V6 engine powers the 2020 Cadillac XT6, which it shares with the 2020 Enclave and as an optional upgrade for the XT5. 310hp is delivered to the front wheels (FWD) or all wheels (AWD) through the 9-speed automatic transmission featuring Electronic Precision Shift to ensure the right gear is always being used for the situation. For an optimal driving experience, the Cadillac XT6 features a selectable drive mode to ensure it is best adapted to whatever conditions faced on the road.

These drive modes are further improved through the XT6’s refined suspension coming through the Sport Chassis System, to ensure a spirited and engaging ride. The Sport trim brings with it the Sports Control All-Wheel Drive to ensure an exhilarating experience when pushing the XT6 a little bit harder.

While it’s reassuring to know that all this driving technology is included for the times when spirited driving is desired, it’s also good to know that the standard driving experience of the 2020 XT6 is much in line with what you would expect from a luxury SUV. Under regular driving conditions, the XT6 delivers a smooth, quiet and relaxed ride, with plenty of power at hand when needed – enough power to propel the bulky XT6 from 0-60 in 6.9 seconds.

Fuel consumption isn’t much more than the XT5, with the XT6 clocking in at 9.7 L/100km on the highway and 13.5 L/100km on the highway.

The brand new 2020 Cadillac XT6 delivers a bold yet sporty design, along with a luxurious interior and a power driving performance. This is all wrapped up into a convenient and versatile package, starting at $61,098 for the base Premium Luxury trim. Packed with all the latest technology, conveniences and luxuries, the 2020 XT6 delivers great all around value.
