2020 Infiniti QX50 Review

Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division, recently unveiled the new QX50 for the 2020 model year. This crossover is so good that upon its debut, it was voted as “AJAC’s best mid size premium utility vehicle”. It has a very elegant appearance, and boasts of a very wide application of new technology and new specifications too.

SLEEK EXTERIOR

One look at the 2020 Infiniti QX50 will never be enough because of its captivating design. It has a bold, imposing and unique style that implements many curves which mimic air movement around the vehicle, giving it a luxurious, yet sporty appearance. The first thing you notice is the signature QX50 front grille, which is larger for the 2020 model year. The diamond mesh design, the chrome tip and the large Infiniti logo combine to give the vehicle a dignified appearance.

The hood has what is called a “Clamshell” design as it is integrated beautifully into a sweeping curve in the side of the vehicle and also allows the headlights to protrude. These details combined with the 19-inch rims which come as standard, gives the 2020 QX50 a bold stance. The headlights, daytime running lights, fog lights, indicators and brake lights are all intelligent LED which have been programmed to optimize for the vision of the driver and oncoming vehicles.

LUXURIOUS INTERIOR

The 2020 Infiniti QX50 has an impeccably alluring and luxurious cabin, especially in the top of the line Autograph model. The QX50 interior reminds us about the excellence that Infiniti strives for. Upon entry, you’ll immediately notice a modernized retro design that involves the combination of high-quality leather, suede, open pore maple wood and chrome, which are all put together with intricate contrast stitching. And to top it all off, it has a beautiful suede headliner.

The 2020 QX50 comes with two large infotainment screens; the one on top is for the satellite navigation, while the second one below controls the settings, media and climate control. As standard, the 2020 Infiniti QX50 comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can easily integrate your phone with the vehicle’s infotainment system. The electronic shifter helps free up some space on the center console to allow more areas for the storage of personal items as well as a dial to control the infotainment system.

Overall the interior of the 2020 QX50 is a pleasant place to be with the full length sunroof brightening the cabin, while the top notch, soft-touch materials surround you. A heads up display that projects important information onto the windshield, along with the dual display screens will ensure that any information you need is easily and safely at hand.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

The 2020 Infiniti QX50 comes with a newly designed 2.0L variable compression turbo engine. This engine, through mechanical genius, can attain variable compression ratios ranging from 8:1 to 14:1 depending on the need of the vehicle. This engine is paired with a refined CVT transmission and produces 265hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain combination delivers uncommon and surprising results. The power produced is on par with some V6s, while the fuel economy achieved can be compared to that of smaller cars – now that’s a win-win!

The posted rates for fuel economy show a 10.8 L/100km consumption in the city and 8.3 L/100km on the highway, which is quite impressive for a solid SUV like the QX50. The 2020 QX50 also comes standard with three main drive modes – standard, eco and sport and with the push of a button you can customize driving settings related to the engine, transmission and steering.

The 2020 Infiniti QX50 comes with an intelligent all-wheel drive system that delivers all the power to the front wheels on smooth terrain and sends 50% of the power to the rear wheels when it notices slipping, giving you traction and control when and where you need it. It also comes with direct adaptive steering, which is, reputably, “The world’s first Digital Steering Wheel”. This system monitors the road ahead and makes numerous corrections to the wheels at a rate of about 1000 corrections per second, enabling it to take out all unwanted road vibrations caused by uneven road surfaces giving you an exceptionally smooth ride.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The 2020 Infiniti QX50 comes well equipped at a starting price of $44,998 and offers a sleek exterior, a comfortable and luxurious cabin and a smooth, sporty and efficient driving experience. The best way to take in the full assortment of features, technology and beauty is to experience it for yourself with a test drive.
