2020 Mazda 6 Review

The 2020 Mazda 6 is now and always has been a sharp-looking car that packs a potent blend of frugal, yet economical engines, decent equipment levels and a pleasant interior.

This latest 2020 face lifted version of the Mazda 6 has been freshened up inside and out, taking a leap forward in terms of technology, efficiency, dynamics and design. Mazda has achieved this stride forward through the full implementation of its oft-mentioned SkyActiv technology, which has dramatically transformed the appeal of its flagship sedan.

REFINED EXTERIOR

Styling is subjective, but the 2020 Mazda 6 may be the one sedan that’s objectively handsome no matter which way you look at it. The sleek yet curvy lines, wide grille underscoring the headlights and tall, tapered rear end cut a sleek profile.

The ritzy Signature trim models add real wood, fine leather and impressive technology like a colour heads-up display for a near-premium experience at a more palatable price. There’s seemingly not a straight line anywhere on this design, and it works. A sharp grille that underscores the headlights, strong character lines down the side, and a tall, tapering rear end make for a handsome sedan no matter the angle.

BRIGHT INTERIOR

Stepping into the elegant cabin of the 2020 Mazda 6 is a delight for the senses as it’s obvious that there has been an emphasis placed on design. The multi tiered minimalistic dash is packed full of top notch materials, while keeping the design simple and minimalistic. A well laid out center console accompanies the dash and is padded on both sides making it more comfortable for the knees.

An 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a dial controller is standard, as are two USB inputs, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control and more. Passenger comfort is top notch in the 2020 Mazda 6 with wide door openings that make getting in and out easy and, once inside, there’s plenty of leg and head room.

Our Signature model was packed full of all the features and wrapped in soft white leather, which brighten the interior and made it a pleasure to sit in the cabin. The white leather pairs beautifully with the wood grain and black dash components to create an elegant two tone effect.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

All 2020 Mazda 6 models are powered by a 2.5L four cylinder engine outputting 187hp for the entry level models and turbo charged to output 250hp for the GT and Signature models. While both engines do a great job of hauling around the Mazda 6 and providing great fuel economy, the turbo charged version is clearly a more spirited drive.

The six speed automatic transmission is found across all models and is a smooth and quiet shifter while providing a fast response time for sudden accelerations. Like most Mazdas, the 6 follows suit and has a sporty feel to the ride. While it does a great job at cruising at a smooth and quiet pace, once tasked with a little enthusiasm, it responds beautifully. Sturdy and precise handling and sporty steering with decent feedback and come together to deliver a thrilling driving experience.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The 2020 Mazda 6 is available from $27,350 with topping out with the Signature model we tested coming in at $39,600. It is such a shining example of the perfect economical sedan which does many things exactly right. From the pleasing exterior curves, to the brightly elegant interior and the sporty performance, the 2020 Mazda 6 is just one of many fantastic all-round Mazda vehicles in their 2020 lineup.
