2020 Lincoln Corsair Review

The completely new 2020 Lincoln Corsair is the brand new compact SUV that replaces the previous MKC. The 2020 Corsair shares its underpinnings with the 2020 Ford Escape, but packs in so many more features and so much more technology into a design reminiscent of the larger Aviator.

REFINED EXTERIOR

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair showcases a refined exterior comprised of flowing lines, modern accents and an overall seductive shape which slopes to the rear. The overall look is quite pleasing on the eyes and embodies luxury and elegance through the perfect balance of flowing accent lines and the black and chrome accents throughout.

The front end features the Lincoln signature grille with a black and chrome interwoven mesh with Lincoln badge front and center that brings the design in keeping with the rest of the Lincoln lineup. Below the contemporary grille is the body-colour matched bumper, which attractively surrounds the front sensors and daytime running lights. A full width chrome strip below the fog lights completes the look of the front end.

The striking clamshell style rear end of the 2020 Corsair brings many elements together to create sleek look that’s in keeping with the rest of the exterior design. A wide LED strip spans the full width of the rear, blending into the narrow tail lights and being highlighted by a centered floating chrome strip. A dual exhaust and black tailgate window help to add a little boldness to the attractive rear end design.

ELEGANT INTERIOR

Walking up to the 2020 Lincoln corsair, you are greeted by the Lincoln Embrace which activates upon your approach. Consisting of sequential welcome lighting, a Lincoln logo welcome mat projection, a soft exterior LED glow and some overhead interior lighting, the Lincoln Embrace helps to add a human touch to your driving experience.

The elegant interior of the 2020 Corsair showcases modern luxury in its design and offers many convenience and comfort features along with some of the most current technology. The sleek and modern dash is comprised of multiple tiers with different top notch materials and a visually pleasing set of narrow vents which span the entire width of the dash. A large touch screen display sits above the row of vents and the push button gear selector sits below, along with a control panel for climate and audio adjustment. The center console area has the usual storage areas, but frees up a bit more volume thanks to the electronic gear selector being placed on the dash instead.

Our test model featured a unique blue leather interior that was quite pleasing on the eyes and the blue leather was incorporated into the design of many other interior elements making the interior both unique and sporty with the blue leather and black trim blended together. The ambient lighting feature is great and should be included on all cars these days as the majority of time is spent in the interior. The ambient lighting feature allows you adjust the colour and intensity of the interior lighting to suit your mood and make the interior of the Corsair unique at night.

With so many convenience features and technology, it’s only suiting that Lincoln offers personal profiles which can be recognized by the key FOB and will automatically adjust seat positions, audio settings and ambient lighting preferences. Lincoln also goes one step further with their Lincoln Way app, which allows you to use your phone as your key FOB to lock, unlock, open the liftgate or remote start your Corsair. The app also allows you to schedule a service and connect with the Lincoln concierge service.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair offers two available engines. The base model features the 2.0L turbo charged four cylinder engine making 250hp or you can upgrade to the 2.3L turbo charged four cylinder engine outputting 295hp. Both engines are paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

Both turbo fours create enough power to haul around a full load confidently, quietly and as smoothly as you would expect from a luxury vehicle. The handling feels confident and is upgraded with adaptive suspension when you opt for the larger 2.3L engine. The overall driving experience is top notch with quiet and powerful accelerations, smooth gear changes and enough adaptability to ensure optimal settings for most conditions, thanks to the drive mode selector knob on the center console allowing drivers to choose from five unique driving modes including normal, excite, conserve, slippery and deep conditions.

Co-Pilot 360 is Lincoln’s suite of driving technology to which aims to keep your journey safe and stress-free. It includes features like a 360 degree camera, park assist, evasive steering assist, reverse break assist, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, lane departure correction and speed sign recognition.

Thanks to all the driving technology packed into the 2020 Corsair, maneuvering is a breeze. The active park assist feature can locate an appropriate parking spot, and take care of the steering to parallel park your Corsair and also take care of getting you out of the spot when ready to leave.

The Adaptive Cruise Control let’s you set a speed and distance from the vehicle in front. It not only slows the speed to keep your distance but will also come to a complete stop and restart when the traffic starts to move, which is perfect for a bumper to bumper traffic jam. A new feature we haven’t encountered yet is the Evasive Steering Assist, which will monitor traffic ahead and if an imminent collision is detected will provide steering support when braking alone won’t suffice.

The other handy driving safety tech built into the Corsair include the 360 degree camera to show you a full view when reversing, the smart headlights that turn with the vehicle providing light around the corners and the available heads up display to project important information onto the windshield so drivers can keep their eyes on the road ahead.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Lincoln has a clear winner with the 2020 Corsair and they have managed to pack so much driving technology, convenience features and comfort into this small package that starts at $41,337. Lincoln customer service is also top notch and for vehicle maintenance they offer the most convenient method to have your Lincoln serviced. Pick a date, time and location and they will meet you there to pickup your vehicle and bring it for a service, while dropping off a loaner vehicle to tide you over.
