2020 Nissan Kicks Review

New for 2020 the Kicks offers Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility package as standard on all models. This suite of safety features includes intelligent emergency braking, blindspot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning.

TRENDY EXTERIOR

The 2020 Nissan Kicks is trendy, funky, gnarly and all the other hipstery words that come to mind, although the exterior isn’t as unique as the Nissan Juke that it replaces. The customizability of the 2020 Kicks makes each model unique in its own right with contrasting roof colours along with other sections of the car can be modified when ordering.

The 2020 Kicks is a compact crossover SUV with sleek lines and still looks as fresh as the day is was created. The two-tone floating roof, wraparound visor design and the bold V-motion grille make sure that the 2020 Kicks stands out in the crowded compact crossover market. The dramatic exterior is completed with available LED headlights that have a distinct signature line. The base model Kicks is equipped with 16” steel wheels, but can be upgraded to 17” alloys.

VERSATILE INTERIOR

Stepping inside the 2020 Nissan Kicks, you will notice the practicality and versatility in the design. The flat floor design provides excellent leg and headroom for all passengers, although the rear seats are slightly tighter and more appropriate for two, rather than three large adults. The rear passengers also conveniently have access to two USB plugs. The versatile rear seats lay flat to increase the cargo area, suitable for a good amount of luggage and other cargo.

The driver has an optimal seating position, allowing easy access to all the controls and superb visibility around the 2020 Kicks. The comfortable zero gravity seats are design with comfort in mind and are positioned to provide support.

An intuitive 7 inch touch screen infotainment system sits in the center of the dash and is compatible with Apple Play and Android Auto. Top notch materials are used throughout the dash to give it an elegant look with the piano black highlights throughout.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

The 2020 Nissan Kicks wasn’t engineered to win races as you can tell from the 1.6L four cylinder engine which outputs only 122hp. While the engine is suitable for most daily driving, you might find it struggles under a full load. On the other hand, the small engine delivers a very wallet friendly 7.7L/100km in the city and 6.6L/100km on the highway.

The 2020 Kicks offer two transmissions options – a 6 speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). While CVTs are normally dull for performance and are instead ideal for better fuel consumption, the CVT on the 2020 Kicks is a pleasure to use as it creates a really smooth drive. Nissan includes as standard, some great driving safety technology like the intelligent emergency braking, blindspot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning, just to name a few.

The steering is smooth and comfortable, although performance-wise it’s quite vague and has a surprising amount of play and doesn’t really give much feedback. There’s no all-wheel drive option on offer which would be nice, but with only 122hp, you’re unlikely use the Kicks on challenging terrain.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, the 2020 Nissan Kicks offers a unique and trendy looking design in a compact and versatile package. It’s a great vehicle to get around the city and do the majority of the daily driving tasks one would typically do. Starting at $19,398, the 2020 Kicks offers all around convenience at an affordable price and delivers a comfortable and efficient driving experience.
