2020 Range Rover Evoque Review

The first-generation Evoque in 2012 changed the minds of many drivers and the model would go on to sell nearly 800,000 over the course of the next eight years. The newly redesigned 2020 Range Rover Evoque gets subtle improvements over the previous generation because why change what works when the better solution is to improve on a solid core offering.

SLEEK EXTERIOR

Taking styling cues from the stunning Range Rover Velar model, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque looks very similar from the front end, with long sleek headlamps, a high waistline and beautiful crafted door handles which collapse into the body when driving or locked. The flush door handles are certainly a modern day feature that has perhaps been made popular by Tesla.

From the outside, the 2020 Evoque certainly does look regal with some outstanding trim touches giving it a great amount of appeal against most of its mainstream competitors. From first glance you can tell the design is from the Range Rover family. Further inspection will leave you in admiration of the sleek and modern design incorporating narrow and wide lights throughout, a sloping roofline, black trim highlights, large wheels and an aggressive stance.

LUXURIOUS INTERIOR

Stepping into the 2020 Evoque, you’re greeted by the ultra modern interior showcasing luxurious amenities, a minimalist design and top notch materials all put together in a great quality build. The bright and cheerful interior is inviting and plush, swaddling passengers in elegance.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque does away with the outdated infotainment interface and centre stack, replacing it with Land Rover’s InControl Touch Pro Duo system consisting of two 10-inch high-definition screens that control the audio, climate, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and general phone tasks as well as the off-road vehicle settings and status.

The dual widescreen touch displays reduce button clutter completely, except for a few dials to control the audio volume and climate temperatures, making the dash design for the 2020 Evoque very unique and modern.

PERFORMANCE AND DRIVE

The 2020 Evoque tested came equipped with a 2.0L turbo charged four cylinder engine that somehow manages to output a whopping 296hp! The engine is paired with a 9 speed automatic transmission and all wheel drive to create a smooth and comfortable driving experience in the city, while also being able to support some impressive off-road performance.

Even though the 2020 Evoque seems to be more at home in a gated suburb or city environment, rather than dirtying up all those clean British lines, Range Rover has built a great reputation on go-anywhere versatility unmatched by any other luxury manufacturer. The 8.3 inches of ground clearance with a water clearance over 23 inches provides plenty of off-road capability and all activity is monitored by sensors and interior controls.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque shares its engine with the Jaguar E-Pace and Land Rover Discovery Sport among others and results with a driving feel similar to those vehicles. Range Rover states a 0-60mph time of 6.6 seconds, but it’s all very civilized thanks to the smooth acceleration and unflustered nature in general.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Starting at $47,950, the 2020 Range Rover Evoque is a great example of a compact luxury SUV with impressive performance both on and off road. The 2020 Evoque is sufficiently premium in its execution that it feels like a legitimate substitution for luxury SUVs that are a class or two above it in size. Simply put, nothing feels as upscale or as fashionable in its class, nor is anything remotely as capable off-road.
